lafeberКомпьютерная игра «L.A. Noire» была про Лос-Анжелес 1945-1946 годов. Планировалась вторая часть игры, действие которой должно было разворачиваться в Шанхае в те же года. Разработчиками утверждалось, что оба города были сильно похожи друг на друга своим динамизмом и модерном. Они как бы зеркально отражали себя на противоложных берегах Тихого океана. Продолжение так и не вышло, увы.
Я не скажу про Шанхай, но вот цитата про Нанкин, который был официальной столицей Республики Китай в те времена, когда Чан Кайши не приходилось спасаться от японского вторжения в своем запасном Куйбышеве (Чунцин). Эта цитата напоминает другую компьютерную игру – Red Dead Redemption 2. Там сюжет показывает вам провинциальный Средний Запад США в 1899 году. Ваш герой скачет по полупустынным поймам Миссисипи между заброшенными гомстедами, ловит блох около костра, отбивается от волков, и вдруг в какой-то момент выезжает на сверкающий электрическими огнями Сен-Дени – каменный современный город с трамваем, с театром, с дымящимися трубами многочисленных фабрик и населением, говорящим с французским прононсом. Контраст поразительный.

It had a stately government complex and wide asphalt boulevards like those of Washington and Paris – vestiges of the first Chiang made it his capital in 1928. Mimicking a Ming emperor’s tomb, Sun Yat-sen’s mausoleum sat on the slope of Purple mountain.
At the moment Nanjing was in chaos. As Marshall’s C-54 approached over the green rice paddies striped with canals, the airfield was so overcrowded that planes had trouble landing. Many of the city’s 700,000 residents lived not along modern boulevards, but huddled into narrow old alleyways that snaked off them, refugees sleeping alongside water buffaloes. …
Even with Chiang’s improvements, Nanjing was a provincial place compared to Shanghai or Beijing. Within the city wall, among the boulevards and electric lines, farmers still cultivated fields. Bullfrogs could be heard at night and birds at dawn. Damage from the war was prevalent, along with plenty of problems of the postwar: unrepatriated Japanese roaming the city, a shortage of cars and housing, inflation that left many consumer goods out of reach even in dollars.

Date: 2024-08-11 01:15 am (UTC)Сравнение для города-побратима подразумевает некое территориальное сходство. Например, Владивосток многие сравнивают с Сан-Франциско из-за холмистой местности и прибрежности. Шанхай и ЛА могут быть похожи из-за Чайна-тауна.
